Stage 1: The Stage of Loss

At this stage, the first stage of the Change Cycle, the millipede is pre-occupied with loss – the loss of his comfort zone. With the introduction of change, something new, the millipede is left feeling fearful; thinking cautious thoughts and behaving in a paralysed way.
The primitive part of his brain is dominant at this stage. This means that his focus will be on personal safety. The secret to success in change is movement so the millipede needs to try and be proactive and create a sense of safety and move forward to Stage 2. The Millipede needs to be realistic and remember these words:

“In a fight between you and the world, bet on the world” Franz Kafka
